Case Study

Seagate Technology
The Implementation Journey

Presenter: Joan Motsinger, Seagate Technology

In this session, you will hear how Seagate, which designs and manufactures information storage technology, uses the Critical Chain Multi-Project Management Solution to assist in the management of its projects and pipeline across multiple design centers. To compete in the disk drive market, Seagate must deliver ever faster time-to-market across a broad product line while investing nearly $150 million per year in new product and technology development.

Specifically, Joan Motsinger, Director of Technology Platforms and previous Core Team Leader, will discuss Seagate’s system needs, deployment, results and vision for moving forward. Additionally, a hands-on review of the first Seagate project to "go live" under Critical Chain will be shared. Highlights of the presentation will include:

  • The necessary structure for effective and efficient product development through Core Teams.
  • Critical Chain as a decision support tool for project and resource management and as a foundation for effective pipeline management, 1-4 year product, technology, and capacity planning.
  • Actual experiences of a Critical Chain Project Manager.
  • Expanding to the bigger picture of technology development, product development and execution.
