Thanks
to all of you who submitted entries in our recent contest and
survey– we received over 150 votes on the poll and close to 30
horror stories (most of them anonymous). Resource management
gone-awry is clearly an emotional issue for many of you who have
experienced frustration, disappointment, and at times, true
heartache.
A
sample of the stories, questions and comments, plus the
results of the brief survey have been posted. One of the most
common complaints revolved around some version of senior management
not respecting or making unreasonable demands on people – a kind of
cluelessness about the day to day realities of the product
development team.
There were some serious lessons learned
as well – one from a complicated joint venture requiring virtual
collaboration, others from multi-million dollar development
investments that failed to analyze marketing and strategic
implications in advance. A more humorous experience involved a piece
of custom equipment falling off a flatbed truck!
We will be taking some of the questions
and stories to our faculty at the February 21-23 conference, "Synchronizing
Resources, Capacity and the Product Pipeline" (which includes
renowned authorities such as
Don Reinertsen,
Mike McGrath, and others).
Answers will also be published on this website and in our
newsletter, so check back periodically
for new updates and postings. |
